The “Goldbergs” actress, and our September fashion star, shares her biggest red carpet blunder

We caught up with the comedy maven — who swapped Bridesmaids duty for mom duty as Beverly Goldberg on ABC’s The Goldbergs — to talk about her enviable #catsquad, red carpet blunders and the best lesson she learned from Mom.

Tell us about your pets.

I’m totally leaning into being a crazy cat lady. Maxine is the queen, Darla is the governess of all boxes, Hunter does no hunting whatsoever, Stewart keeps the possums away and Crash likes to drink out of faucets. He’s the reason we have a drought in California.

Embarrassing red carpet moments?

I was struggling with my zipper before a red carpet event, but I managed to yank it up. Then, at dinner, the thing just popped open. I could feel it traveling south, and I thought, I’ve got to leave right now or my whole ass is going to be out.

What would be your parenting style?

Like my Goldbergs character, Beverly, my mother was a bit of a smotherer. She was in my business a lot, but I wouldn’t be any different if I had kids. At a certain age, embarrassment works better than any punishment — at least, it did for me!

What are your best beauty secrets?

Back in the ’80s, I’d build up a good funk in my hair with Finesse hairspray. The next day it would curl beautifully and get even bigger, and it could withstand any weather. I thought I was so chic, and you know what? I was.
