New Film Update
The Goldbergs star Wendi McLendon-Covey has joined the cast of Sycamore Pictures’ teen comedy Speech & Debate. The film follows a misfit trio of high school students who, frustrated by the hypocrisy of their authority figures, revive their school’s long since shut-down speech and debate club. Blogging, blackmail and showtunes ensue.
McLendon-Covey plays Joan, mother of one of the film’s trio of debate students. She joins Liam James and Sarah Steel. Directed by Dan Harris from a script by Stephen Karam, it’s being shot by David Hennings and edited by Robert Hoffman (Ghost World, Bad Santa). Speech & Debate is currently shooting in Jackson, MS through August 8.
In addition to The Goldbergs, McLendon-Covey can also be seen hosting the Ellen DeGeneres-produced Repeat After Me on ABC. She recently completed filming Army Of One, opposite Nicolas Cage, and last year appeared in Blended, Think Like A Man Too, and Single Mom’s Club. Other credits include Bridesmaids, Rules Of Engagement, her essential role on Reno 911, and more. She’s repped by UTA and manager Gladys Gonzalez.
