The Goldbergs Season 4 Premiere Details
As part of the Adam F. Goldberg comedy’s annual tradition, the 1980-something comedy is set to take on the classic tale of a group of misfits finding themselves during a weekend detention session.
The annual event is known as “Adam’s Folly” and will take place Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. The movie, which starred Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy — collectively called The Brat Pack — ranked at No. 27 on THR‘s list of Hollywood’s 100 Favorite Movies of all time.
The episode will be similar to the season three premiere that featured the show’s take on Risky Business.
The Breakfast Club becomes the fourth tribute episode featured on the series. The semi-autobiographical comedy based on Goldberg’s life previously featured tributes to Dirty Dancing (season three), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (season two) and The Goonies (season one).
For his part, Goldberg told THR in April 2014 that he hoped to take on both Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller, both of which now have become a reality.
“We decided after the Goonies episode that every year we’re going to do one big Adam’s Folly episode and straight up homage to an ’80s movie. We’re already batting around which John Hughes [Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, etc.] movie it will be,” he said at the time.
The Goldbergs returns in its new slot at 8 p.m. starting Sept. 21 on ABC. Production begins Monday on season four.
