USA Today Knows What They’re Talking About
From today’s paper
The Goldbergs | ABC, 8:30 & 9:30
Here’s one of the advantages of summer repeats: They allow you to catch up on shows you missed while you were occupied elsewhere. Shows, for example, like this appealing ABC sitcom, which is getting a double run tonight before and after Modern Family. The first episode is the pilot; the second episode is an October outing in which the series starts to find its legs — shifting from being a comedy about growing up in the ’80s, with a heavy-handed emphasis on ’80s cultural touchstones, to a comedy about growing up, period. There’s excellent work done here, particularly by Wendi McLendon-Covey, who deserves to be on anyone’s Emmy shortlist.
